Selected as one of 10 international design teams, Baylis Architects designed 8 of the 81 luxury Villas, known as Zhongkai Sheshan Villas. The master-planned community is set on a 46-acre site located just outside in Shanghai, China. The villas vary in size from 3500 to 6000 GSF and have been carefully integrated into the landscape and surrounding site which is configured into a network of canals, to provide a water edge to nearly every villa. Baylis Architects chose to use 8 separate designers so that each of the villas would be different. However, each of the villas designed by a Baylis team member primarily reflect principals found in "Modern" American residential architecture. Additional sources for inspiration included incorporating the ancient art of Feng Shui and the contemporary interpretation of classic Chinese cultural.
The integration of design concepts by Baylis' team members Markie Nelson Interior Design and JGM Landscape Architects was critical in providing comprehensive solutions.
