The Yew Apartments

The Yew is a seven-story multifamily development. Initially designed as a 72-unit building but was reconfigured to 101 units following updated owner proforma and city-driven refinements for an alley vacation. Despite these changes, the design remains true to the original massing, and praised by the community.
The architecture draws inspiration from tree growth rings, reflected in its layered massing and material expression. Brick-clad townhomes establish a strong streetscape presence, complementing a sister project and reinforcing neighborhood continuity. Thoughtful design elements, such as two-storied storefronts leasing and lobby spaces visually interacting with the rescued Yew tree, and stepped-back upper floors, create inviting public spaces that encourage interaction. A focus on durability, sustainability, and high-quality materials ensures the building not only blends into its environment but also contributes to the long-term character of the community.
